Phrase of the week

Hi everybody!! This week we have the expression "Put your foot in it", which is used to talk about when we say something embarrassing by mistake. It is employed in speaking but not in writing, and only in a informal context (not in a formal one).

Example:
  • I really put my foot in it with Janet this morning.
  • What did you say?
  • I said I thought the new marketing idea was stupid and it was her idea.
  • Oh dear. Did she seem upset?

We hope you have found it useful. There will be more expressions the next week ;-)
